The Patient Support Technician Provide safe, prompt transport of patients throughout the Hospital Facility and assist other personnel in performing additional task as needed . Reports to Supervisor, Patient Transport . Ability to work under minimal supervision and accomplish tasks in a fast paced environment following departmental guidelines. Performs all functions related to safe transport of patients including assisting nursing staff with transfer and connection/disconnection of O2 under direction of Nursing staff. Will also be required to respond to and provide transport during disasters. Will work closely with co-workers to meet the needs of the transport function.
Essential Accountabilities:
A: Clinical Excellence
1. Utilizes the principles of good body mechanics and Safe Patient Handling when lifting/moving/transporting patients evidenced by minimum work related injuries.
2. Transport Inpatients and Same Day Surgery patients to and from any area in the hospital, as in Assist nursing staff with transferring patients, stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.
3. Responds and updates transport times with dispatcher on duty.
4. Performs effectively when confronted with emergency situations. Provides transportation and assistance during disaster situations.
5. Responds to Special Calls
Delivers Bucks Traction equipment ( boot, weight and braided cord to the bedside) for nursing to apply
Transports deceased to morgue and assist undertaker as needed. Maintain integrity of morgue area.
Completes all mandatory inservices, and seeks opportunities for cross-training and developing new skills.
Empties linen bags as required.
Displays a polite, highly professional attitude toward patients and co-workers. Maintain friendly, efficient and responsive attitude toward patients while performing job duties.
Acts as a dispatcher when needed.
Responds to all pages within the established time frame when no dispatcher is on duty
Maintains confidentiality of records and other information, performing all tasks and communications in a confidential and respectful manner
Switch out empty O2 tanks for Full O2 tanks on units and ancillary areas.
Follows established department guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing of patient transport equipment.
B: Quality Improvement
Supports and participates in departmental and hospital-wide quality improvement activities.
Primary Customers or Key Working Relationships: Nursing Department, Radiology, Physical Therapy and Transitional Care Center
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent required.
Ability to read, follows instructions, and use basic math skills.
Ability to read and write English Required.
Experience:
Previous Clinical Experience desired.
